The Great Big Green Week

Climate action is coming to Shrewsbury as part of nationwide campaign.

Local residents and organisations across Shrewsbury are taking part in the Great Big Green Week this June to highlight the need for urgent action on climate and nature. Taking place between 7th and 15th June 2025, the climate action campaign known as the Great Big Green Week will see thousands of people across the UK organising local festivals and events.

Now in its fifth year, the campaign events will draw attention to climate change and destruction of the natural world, while also making a connection with these issues in communities like Shrewsbury.

The Great Big Green Week will show that people and communities across the UK are making swaps every day to help create a better world, for us now and for the next generation.

Councillor Julian Dean, Chair of Shrewsbury Town Council’s Climate Change and Nature Recovery Committee, said he was hoping for as many people as possible across Shrewsbury to get involved.

He said: “There are so many great events to choose from, such as an insect or wildlife watch, tree planting, learning about how to affordably convert your heating away from reliance on gas, community litter picking, and so much more.”

We are also encouraging people to get involved in a community-wide event of their choosing. This could be an educational event, an arts event or community activity such as a group cycle or walk.

The programme of events, coordinated by Shrewsbury Town Council is open to all and has something for everyone. Please come along and participate in a wide range of activities taking place across the town ranging from green fairs and demonstrations to jigsaw and vinyl swaps, including activities for all ages.

If you would like to put on an event there is still time. Please contact Ruth Jones, ruth.jones@shrewsburytowncouncil.gov.uk or Esme Breeze, esme.breeze@shrewsburytowncouncil.gov.uk. For more information on the national campaign please visit https://greatbiggreenweek.com/.
